Regulation 1
These Rules may be cited as the Singapore Armed Forces Good Service Medal Rules ,1975, and shall come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1975.

Regulation 2
In these Rules, the expression “qualifying service” means all the time an officer or soldier has served —
(a)
in full-time service in the Singapore Armed Forces whether Regular, Mobilised or National Service;
(b)
in voluntary service in the division of the Singapore Armed Forces known as the People’s Defence Force; and
(c)
as a reservist in the Singapore Armed Forces.
Regulation 3
Subregulation 1
A medal to be known as the Singapore Armed Forces Good Service Medal (hereinafter in these Rules referred to as “the Medal”) may be awarded to a serving member of the Singapore Armed Forces in recognition of his good, efficient and faithful service in the Singapore Armed Forces.
Subregulation 2
The minimum period qualifying for the award of the Medal shall be as follows:—
(a)
in the case of full-time servicemen, five years full-time continuous qualifying service;
(b)
in the case of reservists, two years full-time continuous qualifying service, and attendance at three Annual In-Camp Trainings;
(c)
in the case of volunteers, six years part-time continuous service.
Regulation 4
The following provisions shall apply in computing the period qualifying for the award of the Medal:—
(a)
that there has been no break in service;
(b)
where there has been a change from one form of service to another, such service shall be considered as continuous service;
(c)
a day’s break in service imposed between one form of service and another for the purposes of awarding a pension or gratuity under the Singapore Armed Forces Pensions Scheme Regulations, 1971 (G.N. No. S 104/71) shall not be deemed to be a break in service; and
(d)
leave with or without pay in excess of three months at any one time shall not count towards qualifying service.
Regulation 5
When initiating a recommendation, the originator shall be responsible for recommending those personnel whose service and performance have been satisfactory.
Regulation 6
The Medal shall be awarded by the Director of Manpower.
Regulation 7
A register of the names of the persons to whom the Medal is awarded shall be kept in the Ministry of Defence.
Regulation 8
Subregulation 1
The Armed Forces Council may forfeit any Medal awarded to any person under these Rules if he —
(a)
is convicted of any criminal offence;
(b)
is dismissed or removed from the Singapore Armed Forces on disciplinary grounds; or
(c)
is guilty of misconduct or disloyalty to Singapore.
Subregulation 2
Any Medal so forfeited may be restored by the Armed Forces Council at its discretion.
Regulation 9
Where a Medal is lost or destroyed it may be replaced on payment made by the recipient of a sum sufficient to cover its costs provided that a statement made by the recipient explaining the circumstances leading to its loss or destruction is considered satisfactory by the Director of Manpower.
Regulation 10
The Medal shall be of cupronickel 33 millimetres in diameter and 3 millimetres in thickness and having on the obverse side thereof the Singapore Flag with the figure of a soldier in the centre. In the centre of the reverse side thereof shall be the inscription “FOR GOOD SERVICE” encircled by a laurel wreath.
Regulation 11
Subregulation 1
The Medal shall be worn on the left side of the outer garment suspended by a ribbon 33 millimetres in width and 50 millimetres in length.
Subregulation 2
The ribbon shall consist of vertical orange and white stripes. The orange stripes at the extreme right and left of the ribbon shall be 7.75 millimetres in width. Immediately beside these orange stripes, there shall be four white and four orange stripes each measuring 0.5 millimetres in width, and, bordering these, there shall be two white stripes each measuring 2.5 millimetres in width. At the centre of the ribbon there shall be five orange and four white stripes each measuring 0.5 millimetres in width.
Regulation 12
The Medal and the ribbon shall be of the design set out in the Schedule to these Rules.
