Citation
These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Collisions at Sea) Regulations.
Definition
In these Regulations, “Organization” means the International Maritime Organization.
Incorporation of International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972
The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972, as amended on 19th November 1981, 19th November 1987, 19th October 1989, 4th November 1993, 29th November 2001 and 29th November 2007, set out in the Schedule shall constitute and have effect as the collision regulations for the purposes of the Merchant Shipping Act.
Offence
Where any of these Regulations is contravened, the owner of the vessel, the master and any person for the time being responsible for the conduct of the vessel shall each be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000.
It shall be a defence for any person charged with an offence under these Regulations to show that he took all reasonable precautions to avoid the commission of the offence.
