Seizure of animal, bird, carcases or articles
(1)
When any veterinary authority or police officer has reason to believe that any offence against this Ordinance has been or is being committed or when any officer of customs has reason to believe that an offence against any of the provisions of this Ordinance relating to importation or exportation has been or is being committed such veterinary authority, officer of customs or police officer may seize any animal, bird, carcase or article, the subject matter of such offence and may remove such animal, bird, carcase or article to any compound, enclosure or other place selected by a veterinary authority and there detain it.
(2)
Whenever any animal, bird, carcase or article shall have been seized and detained under the provisions of subsection (1) of this section, the veterinary authority, officer of customs or police officer shall report the same to a Magistrate and the Magistrate may make such order for the further detention or release of the animal, bird, carcase or article as he may think fit.
(3)
The owner of such animal, bird, carcase or article shall pay such sum as the Magistrate may consider reasonable to cover the expenses connected with its removal to a place of detention and unless such sum be paid within a specified time such animal, bird, carcase or article shall be forfeited.
