Amendment of section 47

(1)

Section 47 of the principal Act is amended —

(a)

by deleting the word “and” at the end of paragraph (a); and

(b)

by deleting paragraph (b) and substituting the following paragraphs:“(b)a person must not be detained in a juvenile rehabilitation centre after he has attained 19 years of age; and

(c)

a person must not be detained in a place of safety after he has attained 21 years of age.”.

(2)

Section 47 of the principal Act, as amended by subsection (1), is repealed and the following section substituted therefor:“Maximum age limit for detention in place of detention, juvenile rehabilitation centre or place of safety

47. Subject to section 77, a person must not be detained in a place of detention, a juvenile rehabilitation centre or a place of safety after the person attains 21 years of age.”.
