Regulation 55

Handling and transport of specimens

Subregulation 1

A licensee must ensure that every specimen the licensee receives is kept in packaging that is durable, leak‑proof and watertight.

Subregulation 2

If a licensee reasonably suspects that a specimen contains an infectious agent, the licensee must ensure that the specimen is kept in proper packaging, labelled, transported and handled in accordance with any written law that governs the packaging, labelling, transportation and handling of such an infectious agent, including but not limited to the Biological Agents and Toxins Act 2005.

Subregulation 3

A licensee must ensure that a specimen that has to be transported to another location is properly packaged and labelled, and the label contains a description of the general nature of the transported item, including whether it contains any biohazardous material or radioactive material.
