Amendment of section 25
In the principal Act, in section 25 —
after subsection (1), insert —“(1A) A person who appears before an immigration officer under subsection (1) must furnish such particulars about the person, in such form or manner, as that officer may require.”;
in subsection (2), delete “, and the person must not leave the precincts of the airport except for a place approved by that officer, and must leave and depart from Singapore by the first available means in accordance with the instructions of that officer”;
after subsection (2), insert —“(2A) The person mentioned in subsection (2) must immediately comply with any direction given by an immigration officer under subsection (2B).(2B) An immigration officer may direct the person mentioned in subsection (2A) to —
leave Singapore by the first available means; or
proceed to, and remain in, an immigration depot or a place designated by the Controller, until arrangements are made for the person to leave Singapore, and leave Singapore in accordance with those arrangements.”;
in subsections (3) and (4)(d), after “captain,”, insert “operator,”;
in subsection (4), replace paragraphs (b) and (c) with —“(b)contravenes subsection (1A) or (2A); or”; and
replace subsection (5) with —“(5) If any person contravenes subsection (2A), an immigration officer, a police officer or an auxiliary police officer acting under the directions of an immigration officer or a police officer, may take such steps, including the use of force, as may be reasonably necessary to compel that person to comply with that provision.”.
