Amendment of section 27A

Section 27A of the principal Act is amended —

(a)

by deleting the word “Where” in subsection (1) and substituting the words “Subject to subsection (1A), where”;

(b)

by inserting, immediately after subsection (1), the following subsection:“(1A) The Council shall not be entitled to make an application under subsection (1) in relation to a solicitor without the consent of the Attorney-General, if the solicitor —

(a)

is registered by the Attorney-General under section 130N to practise Singapore law in a Joint Law Venture or its constituent foreign law practice, a Qualifying Foreign Law Practice or a licensed foreign law practice;

(b)

does not practise in any Singapore law practice; and

(c)

undertakes not to practise in any Singapore law practice while his practising certificate remains in force.”;

(c)

by inserting, immediately after “(f),” in subsection (2), “(fa),”; and

(d)

by deleting the word “other” in subsection (2) and substituting the word “any”.
