Amendment of rule 5
of Professional Engineers (Amendment) Rules 2026
In the Professional Engineers Rules 1991, in rule 5 —
in paragraph (1), after “section 21(2)(b)”, insert “, read with section 21(2A),”;
in paragraph (1), replace “the practical experience that a person applying for registration as a professional engineer must have after the person first obtained any of the qualifications mentioned in section 21(1) of the Act is” with “a person applying for registration as a professional engineer must have acquired”;
in paragraph (1)(c), delete “and” at the end;
in paragraph (1)(d), replace the full‑stop at the end with a semi‑colon;
in paragraph (1), after sub‑paragraph (d), insert —“(e)of which at least 42 months (in total) is acquired after the person —
obtains the degree or qualification, or satisfies the other requirements, mentioned in section 21(1)(a) of the Act; or
obtains the academic qualifications, and satisfies the conditions, mentioned in section 21(1)(b) of the Act; and (f)of which not more than 6 months is acquired before the person obtains the degree or qualifications mentioned in sub‑paragraph (e)(i) or (ii), as the case may be.”; and
after paragraph (1), insert —“(1A) For the purposes of section 21(2B)(b) of the Act and paragraph (1)(f), the Board may only take into account practical experience that is acquired by a person in the course of obtaining —
a degree or qualification approved by the Minister under section 21(1)(a) of the Act; or
an academic qualification recognised by the Board under section 21(1)(b) of the Act.”.
