Clause 22

Repeal and re-enactment of section 35

Section 35 of the Women’s Charter is repealed and the following section substituted therefor:“Issuing false copies or extracts35.—

(1)

A person (not being the Registrar) must not issue any document that purports to be —

(a)

a copy of, or an extract from, any record or information contained in the State Marriage Register; and

(b)

issued by the Registrar.(2) A person who contravenes subsection (1) shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction —

(a)

to a fine not exceeding $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both; and

(b)

in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $2,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or to both.”.
