Regulation 36

Search of detained persons

Subregulation 1

The Superintendent of a place of detention must ensure that —

(a)

every detained person is strictly searched on admission to the place of detention; and

(b)

all of the following things are taken from the detained person:

(i)

any knife;

(ii)

any weapon;

(iii)

any instrument;

(iv)

any money;

(v)

any controlled drug;

(vi)

anything that is —

(A)

likely to facilitate escape;

(B)

prohibited under these Rules; or

(C)

objectionable in the Superintendent’s opinion.

Subregulation 2

The Superintendent may cause any dangerous or objectionable thing that is taken from a detained person to be destroyed.

A female detained person must not be searched except by a woman officer.
