Constitution of Medical Council
of Medical Registration Act 1997
(1)
The Medical Council consists of —
the Director of Medical Services;
2 registered medical practitioners from each prescribed medical school in Singapore to be appointed by the Minister on the nomination of the council of the university to which the prescribed medical school belongs, one of whom is the Dean of the medical school;
12 registered medical practitioners resident in Singapore to be elected by the fully registered medical practitioners resident in Singapore; and
8 registered medical practitioners resident in Singapore to be appointed by the Minister.
(2)
The members referred to in subsection (1)(b), (c) and (d) hold office for a period of 3 years and are eligible for re‑appointment or re‑election.
(3)
If for any reason the Director of Medical Services is unable to attend a particular meeting of the Medical Council, the Director may nominate a representative to attend the meeting and when so attending the representative is deemed for all purposes to be a member of the Medical Council.
(4)
The Minister may, at any time, revoke the appointment of any member appointed under subsection (1)(b) or (d) without giving any reason.
