Section 48

Every person received into a mental hospital under any such order as is required by this Act accompanied by the requisite medical certificate may be detained therein until he is removed or discharged as authorised by this Act, and in case of escape may, by virtue of the order, be retaken within 28 days of the escape by the medical superintendent, or any officer or servant of the hospital or any other person authorised by the medical superintendent or any police officer, and conveyed to and received and detained in that hospital.
