Section 48

Prohibition of going to sea undermanned

Subject to any exemption under section 215, if a ship goes to sea or attempts to go to sea without carrying the number of officers, doctors and other seamen that it is required to carry under section 47, the owner or the master of the ship shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 and the ship may be detained.
