These Rules may be cited as the Ngee Ann Polytechnic (Examinations and Award of Diplomas or other Academic Qualifications) Rules.

Regulation 2

Definition

In these Rules, unless the context otherwise requires “Department” means an academic Department and a supporting teaching centre of the Polytechnic and includes the Centre for Computer Studies.

Regulation 3

Senate to determine student examinations

The Senate shall determine from time to time the examinations to be held for the students of the Polytechnic.

Regulation 4

Appointment and duty of principal examiner

Subregulation 1

Suggest a correction

Each head of a Department of the Polytechnic shall be the principal examiner for his Department.

Subregulation 2

The principal examiner shall be responsible for the examinations referred to in rule 3 for the students in his Department.

Subregulation 3

The principal examiner may appoint a deputy principal examiner to assist him in the discharge of his duties.

Subregulation 4

Suggest a correction

The principal examiner shall appoint such examiners, other than external examiners, and moderators as are necessary for the examinations.

Regulation 5

Polytechnic Board of Examiners

Subregulation 1

There shall be a board of examiners to be known as the Polytechnic Board of Examiners.

Subregulation 2

The Polytechnic Board of Examiners shall consist of the following members:

(a)

the Principal as the chairman;

(b)

the Vice-Principal (Administration) as the secretary;

(c)

the principal examiners; and

(d)

such other external examiners as the Senate may from time to time determine.

Subregulation 3

The Senate shall appoint a temporary chairman or secretary during the absence from Singapore or incapacity from illness or otherwise of the chairman or secretary, as the case may be.

Regulation 6

Departmental Board of Examiners

There shall be a board of examiners to be known as the Departmental Board of Examiners for each Department. Each Departmental Board of Examiners shall consist of such members as the Senate may determine.

Regulation 7

Examination results

Subregulation 1

The Departmental Boards of Examiners shall present the results of the examinations for the students in their respective departments to the Polytechnic Board of Examiners.

Subregulation 2

Suggest a correction

The Polytechnic Board of Examiners shall consider the examination results presented to it by the Departmental Boards of Examiners.

Subregulation 3

The results of all the examinations shall be presented to the Senate by the Polytechnic Board of Examiners.

Regulation 8

Admission to examinations

Subregulation 1

No student shall be allowed to sit for any examination conducted by the Polytechnic unless he has paid all fees and other moneys due and payable to the Polytechnic.

Subregulation 2

No student shall be allowed to sit for any examination conducted by the Polytechnic unless his head of the Department has certified that his attendance at the course leading to that examination has been satisfactory.

Regulation 9

Revocation of awards

Subregulation 1

The Senate may revoke any certificate, diploma or other academic qualification awarded to any person if the Senate is satisfied that —

(a)

the person has obtained the certificate, diploma or other academic qualification through dishonest or fraudulent means; or

(b)

the person has in his application for admission to the Polytechnic made any statement which is false in any material particular or made or produced or caused to be made or produced any false or fraudulent certificate or other academic qualification.

Subregulation 2

The Senate shall, before revoking any certificate, diploma or other academic qualification under paragraph (1), give the person concerned notice in writing of its intention to do so, specifying a date, not less than 21 days after the date of the notice, upon which the revocation shall take effect and calling upon the person to show cause to the Senate why the certificate, diploma or other academic qualification should not be revoked.

Subregulation 3

When the Senate has revoked a certificate, diploma or other academic qualification under paragraph (1), the Senate shall forthwith inform the person concerned by notice in writing of the revocation and cause the revocation to be notified in the Gazette.

Subregulation 4

The certificate, diploma or other academic qualification shall cease to be valid upon its revocation.
