5. Functions of Board
Feedback & supportThe functions of the Board are —
Board
“Board” means the Optometrists and Opticians Board established under section 4;
to approve or reject applications for registration under this Act and to approve any such applications subject to such restrictions as it may think fit;
registration
“registration” means the registration of any person under section 15 as an optometrist or optician;
to accredit courses in the practice of optometry and opticianry in Singapore for the purposes of registration;
the practice of optometry
“optometry” or “the practice of optometry” means any of the acts or activities specified in Part 2 of the Schedule;
to issue guidelines on the standards for the practice of optometry and opticianry;
opticianry
“opticianry” or “the practice of opticianry” means any of the acts or activities specified in Part 1 of the Schedule;
to make recommendations to the appropriate authorities for the training and education of optometrists and opticians;
to determine and regulate the conduct and ethics of optometrists and opticians; and
generally to do all such acts, matters and things as are necessary to be carried out under or for the purposes of this Act.
