Clause 3

Establishment and constitution of Pharmacy Board

(1)

For the purposes of this Act, there shall be established a “Pharmacy Board” which shall consist of —

(a)

the Chief Pharmacist of the Ministry of Health who shall be the president of the Board;

(b)

the Head of the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Singapore;

(c)

a registered pharmacist in the public service of Singapore who shall be appointed by the Minister; and

(d)

such other registered pharmacists, not being more than three in number, as the Minister may appoint.

(2)

A person referred to in paragraph (c) or (d) of subsection (1) shall be appointed for a term not exceeding three years; but such person shall be eligible for re-appointment.

(3)

If for any reason the Chief Pharmacist of the Ministry of Health or the Head of the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Singapore is unable to attend a particular meeting of the Board he may nominate some other registered pharmacist in the public service of Singapore or some other member of the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Singapore, as the case may be, to attend the meeting and when so attending such alternate member shall be deemed for all purposes to be a member of the Board.

(4)

If any member of the Board dies, or otherwise vacates his office, the vacancy so created shall, as soon as practicable, be filled in the manner in which the appointment to the vacant office was made; and every person so appointed shall hold office for the residue of the term for which his predecessor was appointed.

(5)

The powers of the Board shall not be affected by a vacancy in the membership thereof nor by any defect in the appointment of a member thereof.
