Declarations by voters
(1)
The presiding officer at any polling station may in his discretion require any voter, before he is given a ballot paper, to furnish such evidence of his identity as the presiding officer may consider necessary and to make and subscribe all or any of the prescribed declarations; and every such declaration shall be exempt from stamp duty.
(2)
If any person fails to furnish such evidence of his identity or refuses to make any prescribed declaration, the presiding officer may refuse to give him a ballot paper.
(3)
If any person wilfully makes a false statement in any prescribed declaration, he shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $500 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months.
