Requirements for labelling of entertainment lasers
Subregulation 1
Every entertainment laser shall have permanently affixed and clearly visible on its external surface the following information:
the name and address of the manufacturer;
the name and address of the distributor, if the distributor is other than the manufacturer;
the model designation, the serial number and the month and year of manufacture;
the class of laser in accordance to the classification set out in the Second Schedule;
for pulsed entertainment lasers, the energy per pulse, pulse duration and pulse repetition rate;
for continuous wave mode entertainment lasers, the output power; and
the name and address of the manufacturer of the laser or lasers used in the apparatus.
Subregulation 2
Every entertainment laser shall have permanently affixed and clearly visible on its external surface, a radiation warning sign that —
is shown in 2 contrasting colours;
is clearly visible and identifiable from a distance of 1 m;
has no outer dimension less than 2 cm; and
is designed in accordance with the appropriate diagram set out in the Fourth Schedule.
Subregulation 3
In addition, labels bearing the words “CAUTION — HAZARDOUS LASER AND ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION WHEN OPEN AND INTERLOCK DEFEATED” shall be affixed to defeatably interlocked protective housings.
Subregulation 4
An entertainment laser is to be treated as complying with this regulation if —
it is classified in accordance with any standard specified in the Seventh Schedule; and
it complies with the requirements for the labelling of entertainment lasers in that standard that correspond to the requirements in this regulation.
