Short title and commencement

This Act may be cited as the Singapore Telephone Board (Amendment) Act, 1970, and shall, with the exception of section 5 thereof, be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of September 1969.(2) The Minister may by notification in the Gazette appoint a date for the coming into operation of section 5 of this Act.

Clause 2

Amendment of section 2

Section 2 of the Singapore Telephone Board Ordinance (hereinafter in this Act referred to as “the Ordinance”) is hereby amended by deleting the definition of “auditor” appearing therein and substituting therefor the following: —“ “auditor” means a person approved as a company auditor under section 8 of the Companies Act, 1967 (Act 42 of 1967), and includes the Director of Audit;”.

Section 9 of the Ordinance is hereby amended by deleting the word “two” appearing in the first line thereof and substituting therefor the word “four”.

New section 17A

The Ordinance is hereby amended by inserting immediately after section 17 thereof the following new section: —“Power to capitalise17A. The Board may, from time to time, with the approval of the Minister, capitalise the whole or any part of the sum standing to the credit of the Board’s General Reserve Account and such sum shall be capitalised as issued and fully paid up capital.”.

Amendment of section 46

Section 46 of the Ordinance is hereby amended —

(a)

by inserting immediately after subsection (1) thereof the following new subsection: —“(2) No person shall incorporate any attachment or make any alteration to any installation of the Board, without first obtaining the permission of the Board.”; and

(b)

by renumbering the existing subsection (2) thereof as subsection (3).
