Award of demerit points
Subregulation 1
Where a licence holder —
is convicted of a scheduled offence; or
pays a sum of money to compound a scheduled offence he is reasonably suspected to have committed,the Deputy Commissioner of Police shall award against that holder the demerit points specified in the Schedule for that scheduled offence.
Subregulation 1A
Where the scheduled offence mentioned in paragraph (1) —
is an offence listed in item (1)(a) to (e), (2)(a) to (e), (5), (7), (8), (9), (10), (12), (13), (18), (23), (24), (25), (26), (27) or (42) of the Schedule; and
is committed, or is reasonably suspected to have been committed, in a school zone, silver zone or zone demarcated as “Friendly Streets” by a licence holder,the Deputy Commissioner of Police may award against the holder concerned 2 demerit points in addition to the demerit points awarded under paragraph (1).
Subregulation 1B
However, if the offence mentioned in paragraph (1A)(a) is committed, or is reasonably suspected to have been committed, by a licence holder in a zone that is demarcated as more than one type of the following zones:
school zone;
silver zone;
zone demarcated as “Friendly Streets”,the Deputy Commissioner of Police must not award against the holder concerned more than 2 demerit points under paragraph (1A).

In this rule —
Definition
“school” has the meaning given by section 2 of the Education Act 1957;
Definition
“school zone” means any road or part of a road that is —
near a school; and
demarcated as a school zone by —
the traffic sign set out in diagram 12A in Part I, or diagram 58(a) or 58(b) in Part II, of the Schedule to the Road Traffic (Traffic Signs) Rules (R 33) at the start of the zone; and
the traffic sign set out in diagram 164 in Part III of the Schedule to the Road Traffic (Traffic Signs) Rules at the end of the zone;

“silver zone” means any road or part of a road that is demarcated as a silver zone by —
the traffic sign set out in diagram 12B(a), 12B(b), 12C(a) or 12C(b) in Part I, or diagram 76A in Part II, of the Schedule to the Road Traffic (Traffic Signs) Rules at the start of the zone; and
the traffic sign set out in diagram 165 in Part III of the Schedule to the Road Traffic (Traffic Signs) Rules at the end of the zone;

“zone demarcated as “Friendly Streets” ” means any road or part of a road demarcated as “Friendly Streets” by —
the traffic sign set out in diagram 12D(a) or 12D(b) in Part I of the Schedule to the Road Traffic (Traffic Signs) Rules at the start of the zone; and
the traffic sign set out in diagram 165A(a) or 165A(b) in Part III of the Schedule to the Road Traffic (Traffic Signs) Rules at the end of the zone.
Subregulation 2
Any demerit points awarded under paragraph (1) or (1A) shall take effect from the date on which the scheduled offence is committed or, in the case where the offence is compounded, on which the scheduled offence is reasonably suspected to have been committed.
Subregulation 3
The Deputy Commissioner of Police shall keep a register setting out the names and other particulars of all licence holders who have been awarded demerit points.
