Regulation 1

Citation and commencement

These Rules may be cited as the Pingat Polis Keberanian (Police Medal of Valour) Rules 2004 and shall come into operation on 27th April 2004.

Regulation 2

Designation of Medal

The Medal shall be designated and styled the Pingat Polis Keberanian or the Police Medal of Valour.

Regulation 3

Award of Medal

Subregulation 1

The Medal may be awarded to any police officer who has performed an act or a series of acts displaying personal courage or constituting distinguished and gallant conduct in circumstances dangerous to himself or other persons.

Subregulation 2

The Medal may be awarded posthumously.

Regulation 5

Recommendation for award

Every recommendation for the award of the Medal shall be submitted with such description and conclusive proof of the act for which the Medal is to be awarded as the circumstances of the case may allow, and such attestation of the act as the Commissioner of Police may consider necessary.

Description of Medal

Subregulation 1

The Medal shall consist of an 8-pointed star shape medal in 925 sterling silver and gilded with gold.

Subregulation 2

The Medal shall measure 44 mm in width and 4.3 mm in thickness.

The obverse side of the Medal shall bear the Singapore Coat-of-Arms encircled by the inscription “POLIS REPABLIK SINGAPURA”.

The reverse side of the Medal shall bear the police crest and the inscription “PINGAT POLIS KEBERANIAN”.

Subregulation 5

The name of the recipient and the date of the award shall be inscribed in the centre of the reverse side of the Medal.

Wearing of Medal

Subregulation 1

The Medal shall be worn by the recipient on the left side of the outer garment and shall be suspended by a ribbon.

Subregulation 2

The ribbon shall be 33 mm in width and 50 mm in length.

The ribbon shall have vertical stripes in white, dark blue and red.

Subregulation 4

The stripes from the right and left of the ribbon to the centre of the ribbon shall be white, dark blue and red, respectively.

The width of the white stripes on the ribbon shall be 5.5 mm each.

The width of the red stripe in the centre of the ribbon shall be 2 mm.

The width of the dark blue stripes shall be 10 mm each.

Regulation 8

Miniature Medal

The miniature version of the Medal shall be identical to the full size Medal as described in rules 6 and 7 except that the dimensions specified in those rules (other than the length of the ribbon) shall be reduced by half.

When any act deserving of the award of the Medal is performed by a person to whom the Medal has already been awarded, the act may be recognised by the award of a silver Bar which shall be attached to the ribbon by which the Medal is suspended.

There shall be no limit to the number of Bars that may be awarded to the holder of the Medal.

For each Bar awarded, a small silver star may be added to the ribbon when the ribbon is worn alone without the Medal and Bar.

Regulation 11

Publication of award

The names of the persons to whom the Medal or a Bar thereto is awarded shall be published in the Gazette.

Forfeiture of Medal

Subregulation 1

If a person to whom the Medal has been awarded under these Rules is convicted of a criminal offence or is dismissed or discharged from the Singapore Police Force for disciplinary reasons, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, may order the forfeiture of the Medal.

Subregulation 2

Notwithstanding paragraph (1), the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, may, at any time, restore the Medal to any person whose Medal has been so forfeited.

Where the Medal has been restored to any person, the fact of the restoration shall be published in the Gazette.

Subregulation 1

The Pingat Polis Keberanian (The Police Medal for Valour) Rules 1988 (G.N. No. S 80/88) are revoked.

Subregulation 2

Suggest a correction

Any award of any medal under the revoked Rules by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, before 27th April 2004 shall be deemed to be valid as if the medal was awarded by the President under those Rules.
