10B. When General Division is open

Subject to subsection (2), the General Division is to sit on every day of the year except on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
General Division
“General Division” means the General Division of the High Court;
Despite subsection (1), a Judge may lawfully sit on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday or during a vacation prescribed under section 7 if —
Judge
“Judge” means a Supreme Court Judge, a Judicial Commissioner, a Senior Judge or an International Judge, and —(a)in relation to the General Division, means a Judge sitting in that Division in accordance with the Constitution and this Act;(b)in relation to the Appellate Division, means a Judge sitting in that Division in accordance with the Constitution and this Act; and(c)in relation to the Court of Appeal, means a Judge sitting in that Court in accordance with the Constitution and this Act;
the Chief Justice has directed the Judge to sit on that day or during that vacation; or
in the opinion of the Judge, the business to be despatched is extremely urgent.
