The plaintiff (‘Yim’) is 49 years old and has been working as a trade and investment manager at the British High Commission for 16 years. Before that she had worked as a franchise manager at the Coffee Club, and also in a couple of other companies, including Bon Food Pte Ltd. She has a Bachelor of Business degree, majoring in property investment. Yim states in her evidence-in-chief that her job at the British High Commission does not involve making or managing investments or loans. She clarified under cross-examination that her job in the trade department is to help UK technology companies that intend to do business in Singapore make the appropriate connections. She is, undoubtedly, an intelligent woman, wiser today than she was in 2008.
