Employers to allow employees reasonable period for voting
(1)
Every employer must, on polling day, allow every elector in his or her employ a reasonable period for voting.
(1A)
An employer must not make any deduction from the pay or other remuneration of any such elector or impose upon or exact from the elector any penalty by reason of the absence of the elector during that period.
(2)
Any employer who, directly or indirectly, refuses, or by intimidation, undue influence, or in any other manner, interferes with the granting to any elector in his or her employ of a reasonable period for voting shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both.
