Standing passengers
of Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) Rules
Subregulation 1
Subject to paragraphs (2) and (3), a school bus may carry standing passengers.
Subregulation 2
When a school bus is used for the conveyance of school children to and from their school, it must not carry any standing passenger who is below 18 years of age.
Subregulation 3
A school bus must comply with the following requirements if it carries any standing passenger:
it must have a maximum laden weight exceeding 3,500 kilograms or a seating capacity exceeding 15 persons (excluding the driver);
it must be fitted with handrails and handstraps in accordance with rule 85 of the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Construction and Use) Rules (R 9).
