Physical violence
Subregulation 1
Subject to paragraph (2), no member of the staff of any detention barrack or military prison shall use physical force on any detainee or military prisoner, as the case may be.
Subregulation 2
Such physical force as is necessary may be used —
to subdue an aggressive detainee or military prisoner; or
by a member of the staff in self-defence or in the defence of another staff member or another detainee or military prisoner.
Subregulation 3
Where any weapon is used in the circumstances set out in paragraph (2), every possible attempt must be made to strike only on the non-vital parts of the body of the relevant detainee or military prisoner.
Subregulation 4
A medical officer shall examine a detainee or military prisoner on whom physical force was used as soon as possible and a written report of the examination shall be submitted to the Commandant.
