Short title and commencement
This Ordinance may be cited as the Singapore Military Forces (Amendment) Ordinance, 1962, and shall be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of September 1960.

Short title and commencement
This Ordinance may be cited as the Singapore Military Forces (Amendment) Ordinance, 1962, and shall be deemed to have come into operation on the 1st day of September 1960.
Amendment of section 2
Section 2 of the Singapore Military Forces Ordinance (hereinafter in this Ordinance referred to as the “principal Ordinance”) is hereby amended by inserting immediately after the word “Forces” appearing at the end of the definition of “Commandant” therein the expression “with the exception of the Singapore Military Forces Reserve constituted under Part IV of this Ordinance”.
Amendment of section 10
Section 10 of the principal Ordinance is hereby amended —
by deleting the full-stop appearing at the end thereof and substituting therefor a colon; and
by adding thereto the following proviso: —“Provided that any person between the ages of fourteen years and seventeen years may, if he otherwise satisfies the prescribed conditions and subject to the provisions of this Ordinance, be enlisted as drummer boys and band boys in the prescribed manner in the Forces.”.
Amendment of section 12
Section 12 of the principal Ordinance is hereby amended —
by deleting the full-stop appearing at the end of paragraph (b) thereof and substituting therefor a colon; and
by adding thereto the following proviso: —“Provided that the Singapore Military Forces Reserve constituted under Part IV of this Ordinance shall be under the executive command of the Defence Forces Record Officer who shall in the like manner be responsible to the Yang di-Pertuan Negara and the General Officer Commanding.”.
Amendment of section 40
Section 40 of the principal Ordinance is hereby amended by deleting the words “Officer in Charge Forces Records” appearing in the third line thereof and substituting therefor the words “Defence Forces Record Officer”.
Amendment of section 41
Subsection (1) of section 41 of the principal Ordinance is hereby amended by deleting the word “Commandant” appearing in the fourth line thereof and substituting therefor the words “Defence Forces Record Officer”.
Amendment of section 42
Section 42 of the principal Ordinance is hereby amended by deleting the word “Commandant” appearing in the fourth line thereof and substituting therefor the words “Defence Forces Record Officer”.
Amendment of section 43
Subsection (1) of section 43 of the principal Ordinance is hereby amended by deleting the word “Commandant” appearing at the end thereof and substituting therefor the words “Defence Forces Record Officer”.
New section 59A
The principal Ordinance is hereby amended by inserting immediately after section 59 thereof the following new section: —“Benevolent Fund59A.—
There shall be established a Fund to be called the Singapore Military Forces Benevolent Fund.(2) Such Fund shall be administered by a person or persons to be appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Negara.(3) The Yang di-Pertuan Negara may make rules to provide for the purpose and administration of such Fund.”.
