This Act may be cited as the Transfer of the Nanyang University Alumni Register Act.

Section 2

Interpretation

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires —“Nanyang Technological University” means the Nanyang Technological University established and incorporated by the Nanyang Technological University Act (Cap. 192);“National University of Singapore” means the National University of Singapore established and incorporated by the National University of Singapore Act (Cap. 204);“NUS Register of Graduates” means the Register of Graduates maintained in accordance with the provisions of the Fourth Schedule to the National University of Singapore Act.

Section 3

Transfer of Part of Register of Graduates

On 31st August 1996 —

(a)

the Registrar of the National University of Singapore shall transfer to the Registrar of the Nanyang Technological University —

(i)

the Part of the NUS Register of Graduates which, immediately before that date, was known as Part B thereof;

(ii)

the register of members of the former Nanyang University which, immediately before that date, was maintained in accordance with paragraph 5 of the Fourth Schedule to the National University of Singapore Act; and

(iii)

all documents in the possession of the Registrar of the National University of Singapore which relate to the Part of the NUS Register of Graduates and the register of members of the former Nanyang University so transferred; and

(b)

the registers or part thereof transferred pursuant to paragraph (a ) shall constitute and form part of the Register of Graduates of the Nanyang Technological University maintained in accordance with section 35 of the Constitution of that University.

Transitional rules

The Minister may make rules generally for the purpose of removing any difficulty which may arise by reason of the transfer of the registers and other documents referred to in section 3, and any rules so made shall have effect notwithstanding anything to the contrary in any written law.
