Turbine engine reliability
Subregulation 1
A commercial air transport operator, with a special operations approval to conduct commercial air transport operations at night or in instrument meteorological conditions (as the case may be) using a single‑engine turbine‑powered aeroplane, must equip the engine of the approved aeroplane with —
an ignition system that activates automatically, or is capable of being operated manually —
for take‑off and landing; and
for flight when there is visible moisture;
a magnetic particle detection system (or equivalent) —
that monitors the engine, the accessories gearbox and reduction gearbox; and
that includes a flight deck caution indication; and
an emergency engine power control device that permits the engine to continue operating throughout a sufficient power range to safely complete the flight in the event of any reasonably probable failure of the fuel control unit.
Subregulation 2
If a commercial air transport operator mentioned in paragraph (1) detects any trend in the performance of the aeroplane’s engine that indicates a deterioration in engine performance which may affect the safety of operations, the commercial air transport operator must take measures to address such a trend.
