This Act may be cited as the Constitution (Amendment) Act, 1971, and shall come into operation on such date as the President may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.

Clause 2

Amendment of Article 52B

Clause (2) of Article 52B of the Constitution is hereby deleted and the following substituted therefor: —“(2) A person qualified for appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court or a person who has ceased to hold the office of a Judge of the Supreme Court may sit as a Judge of that Court, if designated for the purpose (as occasion requires) in accordance with Article 52C of this Constitution, and such person shall hold office for such period or periods as the President, acting on the advice of the Prime Minister, shall direct.”.
