Uncontested elections
(1)
If, on nomination day after the decision by the Returning Officer of any objection which may have been lodged, only one candidate stands nominated, the Returning Officer must immediately —
(a)
declare the nominated candidate to be elected to the office of President; and
(b)
cause the name of the person so elected to be published in the Gazette.
(2)
Nothing in sections 11 and 12 prevents the Returning Officer from exercising any of his or her powers under subsection (1) before 12.30 p.m. if, at 12 noon on nomination day for an election, only one candidate stands nominated.
