Regulation 73

Radiation accident in medical application

Subregulation 1

When any radiation accident occurs in a medical application of ionising radiation or radioactive material, the licensee or radiation safety officer must inform the Director‑General of the occurrence of the accident by means of a preliminary oral report within 24 hours after the accident, which is to be confirmed in writing within 48 hours and a final full written report within 10 days after the accident.

Subregulation 2

The preliminary written report must contain the following details to the extent possible and the final full written report must contain all the following details:

(a)

the time, place and nature of the accident and the details of the patient involved;

(b)

the calculated or estimated doses received and their distribution within the patient;

(c)

the corrective measures taken to prevent recurrence of a similar accident.
