Section 15
Duty to surrender certificate on cancellation of policy
(1)
Where a certificate of insurance has been issued under section 4(9) to the person by whom a policy has been effected and the policy is cancelled by mutual consent or by virtue of any provision in the policy, the person to whom the certificate was issued must, within 7 days from the taking effect of the cancellation, surrender the certificate to the insurer or, if it has been lost or destroyed, make a statutory declaration to that effect.
(2)
Any person who fails to comply with subsection (1) shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $500 and, in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months.
