Additional award in respect of total disability arising from exceptional circumstances or service beyond call of duty

Where a special police officer who is eligible for an award or a gratuity under regulation 45 has suffered total disability as a result of an injury received under exceptional circumstances or while rendering service beyond the call of duty, the Approving Authority may (in addition to the award granted to the special police officer under regulation 46 and, where applicable, regulation 47) grant the special police officer an award to be determined having regard to the principles on which a claim for damages would be determined in a civil court.
