8. Application for certificate of eligibility

A person desiring to be elected as President must apply in the prescribed manner to the Presidential Elections Committee for a certificate of eligibility.
Presidential Elections Committee
“Presidential Elections Committee” means the Presidential Elections Committee established under Article 18 of the Constitution;
An application for a certificate of eligibility must be made within the period —
certificate of eligibility
“certificate of eligibility” means a certificate of eligibility issued under Division 2 of Part 2;
starting on —
if the office of President falls vacant before the incumbent’s term expires, the date on which the office of President fell vacant; or
in any other case, the date that is 3 months before the expiry of the incumbent’s term; and
ending on the date which is 5 days after the date of the writ.
If an application for a certificate of eligibility is made by a person who is below 45 years of age as at nomination day or, if there is more than one nomination day, the latest of those days —
the Presidential Elections Committee is not required to consider the application; and
the application is deemed to be withdrawn.
