These Regulations are the Prisons (Police Lock‑ups) (Amendment) Regulations 2026 and come into operation on 1 June 2026.

Prisons (Police Lock‑ups) (Amendment) Regulations 2026 is Singapore Subsidiary Legislation, cited as Subsidiary Legislation S314 2026, currently marked in force and first recorded in 2026.
Citation and commencement
These Regulations are the Prisons (Police Lock‑ups) (Amendment) Regulations 2026 and come into operation on 1 June 2026.
Amendment of regulation 1
In the Prisons (Police Lock-ups) Regulations 2013 (G.N. No. S 684/2013) (called in these Regulations the principal Regulations), in regulation 1, after “Police Lock‑ups”, insert “and Temporary Lock‑ups”.
Amendment of regulation 2
In the principal Regulations, in regulation 2 —
replace the definition of “authorised officer” with —“ “authorised officer” means —
for a police lock-up —
a police officer assigned by or on behalf of the officer‑in‑charge of a police lock‑up to perform, at the police lock‑up, the duties specified in regulation 6; or
an auxiliary police officer employed under section 50B of the Act as an escort or a guard to ensure the safe custody of any person who is under the auxiliary police officer’s custody while the person is transported to, or from, any police lock‑up or while the person is at any place outside a police lock‑up; and
for a temporary lock-up —
a police officer assigned by or on behalf of the officer‑in‑charge of a temporary lock‑up to perform, at the temporary lock‑up, the duties specified in regulation 6;
an auxiliary police officer employed under section 50B of the Act as an escort or a guard to ensure the safe custody of any person who is under the auxiliary police officer’s custody while the person is transported to, or from, any temporary lock‑up or while the person is at any place outside a temporary lock‑up; or
a prison officer assigned by or on behalf of the officer‑in‑charge of the temporary lock‑up, with the approval of the Commissioner, to perform, at the temporary lock‑up, the duties specified in regulation 6;”;
delete the definitions of “auxiliary police officer” and “lock‑up”;
in the definition of “lock-up officer”, after “police lock‑up”, insert “or temporary lock‑up”;
replace the definition of “lock-up prisoner” with —“ “lock-up prisoner” —
in relation to a police lock‑up, means a person, whether convicted or not, who is confined in the police lock‑up, or who is transported to, or from, the police lock‑up; and
in relation to a temporary lock‑up, means a person, whether convicted or not, who is confined in the temporary lock‑up, or who is transported to, or from, the temporary lock‑up;”;
in the definition of “officer-in-charge”, after “police lock‑up”, insert “or a temporary lock‑up”;
in the definition of “police lock-up”, replace “to which, or in relation to which, these Regulations apply.” with “specified under regulation 3(1);”; and
after the definition of “police lock-up”, insert —“ “temporary lock-up” means a temporary lock‑up appointed under section 4(1A) of the Act, or the appointment of which is extended under section 4(1B) of the Act, for the confinement of the arrested persons described in section 4(1A) of the Act.”.
Amendment of regulation 3
In the principal Regulations, in regulation 3 —
renumber regulation 3 as paragraph (1) of that regulation;
in paragraph (1), delete sub-paragraphs (a), (e) and (f); and
after paragraph (1), insert —“(2) These Regulations also apply to, and in relation to, any temporary lock‑up.”.
Amendment of regulation 4
In the principal Regulations, in regulation 4 —
in the regulation heading, after “police lock‑ups”, insert “and temporary lock‑ups”;
in paragraph (1), after “police lock-up” wherever it appears, insert “or temporary lock‑up”;
replace paragraph (2) with —“(2) The Commissioner of Police may appoint an officer‑in‑charge for any police lock‑up or temporary lock‑up.”;
in paragraphs (3) and (4), after “a police lock‑up”, insert “or temporary lock‑up”;
in paragraph (3), after “the police lock‑up”, insert “or temporary lock‑up”; and
in paragraph (4), replace “that police lock‑up to assist him in the day‑to‑day management and administration of the police lock‑up” with “the police lock‑up or temporary lock‑up to assist the officer‑in‑charge in the day‑to‑day management and administration of that police lock‑up or temporary lock‑up”.

in the regulation heading, after “police lock‑ups”, insert “and temporary lock‑ups”;
after “of a police lock-up”, insert “or temporary lock‑up”;
in paragraphs (a), (b) and (c), after “police lock-up”, insert “or temporary lock‑up”; and
