Establishment of Singapore Dental Council
of Dental Registration Act 1999
(1)
A body called the Singapore Dental Council is established, which is a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal.
(2)
The Council consists of —
the Chief Dental Officer;
the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry of the National University of Singapore;
3 registered dentists, to be appointed by the Minister, whose names appear in the first division of the Register of Dentists and who are practising in Singapore;
one registered dentist, to be appointed by the Minister, whose name appears in the second division of the Register of Dentists and who is practising in Singapore;
at least one but not more than 3 registered oral health therapists, to be appointed by the Minister, whose names appear in the Register of Oral Health Therapists and who are practising in Singapore; and
5 members to be elected by registered dentists whose names appear in the first division of the Register of Dentists and who are practising in Singapore.
(3)
Only registered dentists whose names appear in the first division of the Register of Dentists and who have at least 10 years’ experience in the practice of dentistry may be elected as members of the Council.
(4)
The members hold office for a term of 3 years and are eligible for re‑appointment or re‑election.
(5)
The Minister may, at any time, revoke the appointment of any member appointed under subsection (2)(c), (d) or (e) without giving any reason.
