Stability of tunnelling work
Subregulation 1
Where tunnelling works are being carried out in a worksite, all reasonably practicable measures such as shoring, shot-creting, supports by means of rock bolts, segments or steel sets, or other measures, shall be taken —
to ensure the stability of the tunnel; and (b)to prevent any person being trapped by the collapse of the tunnel or being struck by an object falling into the tunnel.
Subregulation 2
The roof, face and walls of the work area in the tunnel shall be examined and tested before the start of the tunnelling works and thereafter at regular intervals to ensure that it is safe for persons at work in the tunnel.
Subregulation 3
Adequate clearance or refuge area shall be provided and maintained to prevent workers from being caught in between or struck by any part of any vehicle, fixture or equipment within the tunnel.
Subregulation 4
All tunnels or shafts in a worksite shall be properly designed and constructed —
to prevent the collapse of the shaft or surrounding earth; and
to prevent flooding.
